Privacy policy

GuessOwl ("we", "us") runs the daily games at guessowl.com. We keep data to a minimum: there are no accounts, and we never ask for your name, email or password to play.
What is stored on your device
To remember your progress, the site saves a few things in your browser's local storage:
- A random device ID. It is just a string of letters and numbers, not linked to who you are.
- Your daily results and streaks.
- The friend boards you've joined.
This stays in your browser. Clearing your browser's site data for GuessOwl removes it all (and resets your streaks).
What we receive when you play
- Daily scores. When you finish a daily game we receive your device ID, score, how long you took and the date. We use this to count one daily play per device and to show how you rank. These records are deleted after 7 days. We keep only anonymous totals (how many people got each score), which can't be traced back to you.
- Friend boards (only if you use them). We store the nickname you pick, the boards you're on and your daily points. Everyone on a board can see your nickname and points. Points are deleted after 63 days. You can leave a board at any time.
- Your IP address is used for a moment to block spam and bots, then thrown away. We don't store it with your scores.
We don't sell your personal information.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores game data. It may also run an invisible bot check (Turnstile) when you submit a score. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics tells us how many people visit and which games they play. It uses cookies and collects things like pages viewed, device type and rough location (country or city). Seehow Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Google AdSense shows the ads that keep GuessOwl free. Ads load only after you start a game.
Advertising and cookies
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners show you ads based on your visits to GuessOwl and other sites.
- You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of other vendors' personalized ads at aboutads.info(US) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
- You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The games still work without them.
Children
GuessOwl is a general-audience site and is not aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to see, correct or delete data about you, or to object to how it is used. Most of what we hold deletes itself within days. To make a request, emailhello@guessowl.com.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top.
